Most difficult question you’ve ever asked.
I like them all! But for those who have grabbed a hold of my nose and just won’t let go are:
1) Chaochu and 2) Bhodidharma definitely have a vice grip!
3) Hakuin
4th and 5th slots are a battle between Dogen (recently), Lin Chin, Huang Po
I would like to ask any favorite current (alive) zen masters?
Although I have never met either, Aitkens and Thich Nhat Han have acquired that particular nose lock on me which I can’t seem to get out of. There are a couple of others that I have met that have the eye.
How about you?
Greetings Jordan,
In grateful thanks.
Peace,
Ted

Hi Barry,
Thank you!
You wrote, “So, what makes a “favorite” Zen master?”
The same thing that makes fences, walls, tiles, and pebbles—our experiencing of them.
Peace,
Ted

1 Dogen
2 Hakuin
3 Chinul

5 Zongmi
You also wrote, “Although I have never met either, Aitkens and Thich Nhat Hanh have acquired that particular nose lock on me which I can’t seem to get out of. There are a couple of others that I have met that have the eye.”
Yes, I have had the same experience—every Zen master I have met has had the eye. Is there another way to meet them?
Finally, you wrote, “How about you?”
Of course, who else?!
Peace,
Ted
